This lush abstract painting was completed by Chicago-based visual artist Paul Rinaldi back when he was teaching in Cairo, Egypt in the early 90's. This would be one of his earliest abstract works which he shipped back with him to New York when he returned home. Rinaldi regularly shows current works through several Chicago and Minnesota galleries. This piece is acrylic on canvas that is stretched over a wooden frame. This mid-century Japanese woodblock lithograph print by Shiko Munakata hails from the 1970s. It depicts a fantastical "monster frog" in an abstracted forest / landscape. The story was that on assignment in a "wild landscape" in Japan, through his binoculars, he spotted a large stone sculpture in the distance which he originally labeled "a monster". Upon approach it was clear that it was a hig stone frog. Shiko Munakata was a woodblock print maker and visual artist of acclaim. He was associated with the Sosaku Hanga movement and the Mingei (folk art) movement. Presented under glass in a gilt toned wooden frame. On rice or mulberry paper in a glass and black metal floating frame. The frame measures approximately 15" x 19".
