So you’re in the market for a new (used) bed.
The most complicated aspect of choosing a bed is the bed frame size, so once you’ve established if you’re looking for a twin bed frame, full bed frame, queen or king bed frame (or if you’re extra fancy, the California king bed frame) you’ll be in good shape.
Know your bed size? Great. Now let’s move on to bed styles, and thankfully this part isn’t too crazy.
Four-poster bed frames are classic, and make us think of a traditional decorating style. For this we recommend shopping the classics: Ethan Allen, crate & barrel, pottery barn and restoration hardware. Sift through any of these brands and you’ll likely find the one. Ashley furniture timberline, for example, is a great option as is the shay king bed. Room and board also has a great 4 poster bed so check that brand as well. These beds are similar to canopy beds, which are also tall, elegant, and can be accessorized with curtains for a billowing beautiful style. Room & Board has a steel canopy bed, and CB2 has wood canopy beds that are absolutely beautiful. Other options include the restoration hardware Montrose high panel canopy bed, which screams luxury and will have you feeling like you’re staying in a hotel at home.
The opposite would be a platform bed, for an uncluttered, simplistic, low to the ground style. This type of bed is actually an older style, despite how many modern takes there are on it today. Generally they don’t come with a headboard or footboard, but the fun with a platform bed is that you could always buy your own headboard to accessorize it however you’d like. Our favorite platform beds include: The west elm upholstered platform bed, Ethan Allen Alison platform upholstered bed, Cb2 acacia bed, and Ikea Brimnes bed for a platform storage bed option.
