Seller's Notes: Richard Avedon "Photographer", 1975 Marlborough Gallery New York Exhibition poster. Exceedingly rare given its pristine condition--straight out of a time capsule. Never been framed or displayed. No creases, no blemishes, just a subtle but gorgeous patina of a faint yellow along the very edges--a badge of its authenticity. Before Avedon's break through exhibition there was little hope for photography's relevancy in the contemporary art NY scene. At that time, Avedon had primarily worked as an established commercial photographer. It would be this 1975 exhibition "Photographer", that became a pivotal moment catapulting his work, along with photography, into the center of the growing discussion about medium's power as a contemporary art form.
