Seller's Notes:This mid-century Japanese woodblock lithograph print by Shiko Munakata hails from the 1970s. It depicts a fantastical "monster frog" in an abstracted forest / landscape. The story was that on assignment in a "wild landscape" in Japan, through his binoculars, he spotted a large stone sculpture in the distance which he originally labeled "a monster". Upon approach it was clear that it was a hig stone frog. Shiko Munakata was a woodblock print maker and visual artist of acclaim. He was associated with the Sosaku Hanga movement and the Mingei (folk art) movement. Presented under glass in a gilt toned wooden frame. On rice or mulberry paper in a glass and black metal floating frame. The frame measures approximately 15" x 19". Note: this is presented under glass in a floating frame which is clear, the primary photo of this listing uses a white background on the edges of the print but it is clear glass with black metal trim.
