The previous seller was a no pet/no smoking home. Although the bed was not exposed to any smoke while in our possession, it was used by dogs- however, they have not been in our apartment for the last 6+ months. It's a great, high quality, brand name (West Elm) bed, and although it does have some aesthetic wear and tear (as pictured), there is no damage that hinders its functionality- all drawers are operational and the wooden slat underlay under the mattress has no flaws. Because of the storage element, the bed is designed to hold only a mattress- no box springs. *MATTRESS NOT INCLUDED* The night-stands are detachable (they bolt onto the headboard), so the bed could be used without either or just one of them if the width of the bed plus both night stands attached will be an issue fitting into your space. We have loved this bed and although it is quite large, if you have the space it really is great for urban living because it has SO much storage space. Depending on how large your wardrobe is, you could likely fit most of your non-hanging items in this bed and forgo a dresser.
