Seller's Notes:RARE Pair Mid-Century Modern Slipper Chairs — Tufted Floral Velvet, Walnut Legs w/ Brass Caps — 1960s Directional / Milo Baughman / Kagan Style of the early 1960's Item Description: Step straight onto the set of Mad Men with this stunning matched pair of original 1960s mid-century modern slipper chairs. These are the real deal — period pieces with all the hallmarks of quality American furniture craftsmanship from the golden age of modern design. Design & Style: Each chair features a graceful asymmetrical curved back with a distinctive swept-wing silhouette that rises higher on one side — a sophisticated detail rarely seen today. The tufted back panel adds depth and dimension, quintessentially glamorous in spirit. The low-slung profile and generous 32" wide seat make these as comfortable as they are beautiful. Upholstery: Covered in the original gold and cream floral cut velvet fabric — a lush, tone-on-tone pattern of large blooms rendered in golden amber against an ivory ground. The fabric shows the characteristic fading and variation of age, with the seat showing deeper saturation than the exterior — honest patina from decades of life. The fabric is intact with no tears; some light wear and crushing of the pile consistent with age and use. Construction section: Frames are built with sinuous S-spring suspension, tack-and-staple upholstery attachment, and solid hardwood frames — all indicators of quality American furniture manufacturing from this era. Legs: Four tapered legs per chair in what appears to be walnut — rich, dark-toned hardwood with tight grain, tapering elegantly to brass-tipped sabots (ferrules). These legs are a textbook mid-century detail: the combination of walnut + brass was ubiquitous in quality American furniture of the 1958–1968 period. A few of the brass caps show oxidation, adding to the patina. Dust cover: Underside cambric (dust cover) has a tear and will need replacement — a minor, inexpensive fix as part of any reupholstery job. Condition: Vintage/as-found. Original Yellow/Gold upholstery is intact but shows age-appropriate fading, light soiling, and pile wear (more so on the seat). Structurally sound. Legs are sturdy. These are perfect candidates for professional reupholstery to restore to showroom glory, or display as-is for that authentic vintage aesthetic collectors love. Images in Oatmeal, Burnt Orange and Green Velvet are "AI reimagined" reupholstery examples only. Dimensions (approximate): Approx. 32"W x 28"D x 28"H — seat height approx. 15". Leg height approx. 8" Selling as a matched pair. Chairs are sold together only as a single pair.
