Seller's Notes:A well-matched set of four French Provincial dining chairs in the Louis XV style, produced in walnut-stained hardwood during the 1960s to 1970s. Each chair features the full formal vocabulary of the style: a woven cane back set within a scalloped-crest molded frame, a caned seat supported on a serpentine carved apron, and four gracefully tapered cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. Together they make a cohesive, elegant, and eminently livable set. The caned backs are the standout feature — woven in a fine double-diamond pattern, framed in a molded surround that widens at the shoulders and culminates in the carved scalloped crest characteristic of the Louis XV idiom. The caning is intact on all four chairs, which is increasingly hard to find in vintage sets of this period. The caned seats are equally well preserved and generously sized, with the serpentine carved apron providing the graceful undulating lower edge that defines the style. Cabriole legs are elegantly proportioned with a well-turned knee and ankle, ending in small scroll feet that give the chairs their characteristic light, elevated appearance. The finish is a warm walnut tone that reads richly in person and photographs beautifully.
