Seller's Notes:Professionally mounted and framed, as well as linen backed, this poster is very rare and coveted. A large 4-sheet format of Cassandre's design, showing Bonal as the key to opening the appetite. A student of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, Adolphe Mouron Cassandre was a painter, commercial poster artist and typeface designer. His inventive graphic techniques show influences of Surrealism and Cubism and became very popular in Europe and the US during the 1930s. Cubism became very popular in Europe & the US during the 1930’s. The Artist: A student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, Adolphe Mouron Cassandre was a painter, commercial poster artist & typeface designer, who’s inventive graphic techniques of Surrealismopened up a new way for peope . AM Cassandre’s (1901-1968) output of posters for French & foreign films was prolific. His work included advertisements for popular beverages of the day. Cassandre designed this particular poster in 1933 as an ad for BONAL which is/was a popular French aperitif - an alcoholic drink one has before a meal to ‘stimulate’ or ‘open’ one’s appetite.
