Seller's Notes:This is a unique artwork was created by Tibetan Buddhist teacher Ngakpa Chogyam in 1995. Entitled "Aro (The experience of the primordial 'Ah')", this artwork arises out of Buddhist practices in the Aro Lineage, a subset of the Nyingmapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. On the Aro Lineage website, the calligraphies are described this way….. “The scripts Ngakpa Chögyam uses in his calligraphies are called u-mèd and u-chen. They originate in part from the ancient script, Lha-bab-yig-gé, meaning: script-symbols from the sky-expanse. Written words are sacred in Tibet because they carry the knowledge of liberation. Spontaneous calligraphy is new to Tibetan tradition, and as yet has no rules – each Lama works individually. Ngakpa Chögyam uses a variety of turnip Tibetan brush which holds a considerable quantity of shellac-based Indian ink, boiled for extra density to give unusual crispness and shine. He uses a heavily loaded brush rather than a ‘dry’ brush, as is used in the Chinese and Japanese styles. Due to the speed at which the calligraphies are executed, ink droplets explode onto the paper, causing the ‘splatters’ by which Rinpoche’s calligraphies have become known.” Originally purchased from the artist by a major corporate art collection, the piece was purchased by it's current owner when that art collection was sold off & dissolved. The work is framed in a custom, handmade frame with gold leaf face and mahogany sides. Paper size = 30 x 22 in.; Frame size = 34 3/4 x 26 3/4 in.
