Salterini Mid Century Wrought Iron Peacock Chair
Product details
Seller's Notes:For your consideration, is this John Salterini heavy gauge wrought iron Peacock Chair. What a statement piece for your terrace, patio or porch. This chair, after the Victorian style, measures 48" tall, is 34" wide and 25" deep. It may look delicate but this chair is rugged and will be useful and beautiful for many years to come. Wear is consistent with age. You may want a fresh paint job but this piece is lovely just the way it is. John B. Salterini immigrated from Italy to New York and went on to found his own firm in 1934 and produced some of the most exquisite, high end outdoor furniture of the mid century period. Over the course of his career he designed a wide range of wrought iron furniture. He drew inspiration from a wide range of styles as well, Gothic Revival and Art Deco, among them. Often his furniture is referred to as mid century modern but many pieces boast of soft curves, cocoon-like shells, organic geometric forms, lace-like patterns, delicate vine leaves and protruding scrolls. The fan back peacock chair and double peacock chaise lounge were among his most ostentatious designs with delicate twisted spokes and high arching backs. Salterini was at his height in the years just after the war when there was a boom in prosperity. Many new homes with patios were built and they required stylish patio furniture. Iron was considered to be the best material for outdoor furniture at that time and Salterini certainly filled a need with his lovely hand wrought (as opposed to cast in a mold) iron furniture. He had the ability to make heavy wrought iron look delicate, natural and elegant. Salterini furniture is highly collectible, sturdy and timeless in design.
