The sofa opens to a true platform support with no springs or bars to feel, and I did buy it to sleep on every night but am now finding that opening and closing my bed on a daily basis isn't working for me, so I've decided to go another route. I have been using the sofa for just under a year and a half. In terms of sleeping comfort, the bed does sleep like a platform bed, but since the high resiliency foam runs to only 4 or so inches thick, the sleep surface is quite firm and futon like in feel. If you (or your overnight guests) like a firm bed, this sleeper will be perfect. If, like myself, you prefer a bit more softness, you will need a topper. I used a 2" good quality latex topper, originally priced at $200, and I will include it as a bonus with the sofa, along with its 100% cotton knit full zip cover. As far as sitting comfort, the sofa is excellent. The seat cushions are firm and supportive while the back cushions are luxe and nice to sink into. The sofa is technically love-seat size, but it seats two people very comfortably with room to spare. Because the seat is relatively high at 20", this sofa is an easy up and down for those who have some trouble with the sleek and low. The sofa fabric I selected is Total Ink, a durable but soft 100% polyester fabric with a subtle chenille-like texture that reads a very true charcoal gray.
