Seller's Notes:Vintage Groovy chair by Pierre Paulin for Artifort. Made in the Netherlands. Measurements: Approx. W33" x H25" x D25". Fine vintage condition. Good clean upholstery, rubbed and a bit pilly. You might want to reupholster, but the aubergine / wine colored upholstery is in good condition now. I think it looks slightly more eggplant/purple than in the pictures, which are more burgundy/red. Metal bases are rubbed, with some scratches/marks (especially on bottom), but also look fine. I've seen several different Groovy chairs with different shapes all called the F598, so this might or might not be the F-598; at any rate, it's still a Paulin Artifort groovy chair of some vintage! Acquired from a vintage store in the early '90s, so it could be of 1980s or 1970s make. I've loved it for years, but have moved into a much smaller place where it just won't fit anymore! Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris.
