Neverbreak Trunks Vintage 1930s Steamer Trunk
Product details
Seller's Notes:This vintage 1930s steamer trunk is from Neverbreak Trunks and manufacturd by L. Goldsmith & Son of Newark, NJ, as indicated by the front plaque. The trunk was owned by a Mr. Russell Mayer and includes a beautifully aged sticker from Mr. Mayer's journey from New York City to La Havre, France on the French Line, or Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. The date of the journey listed on the sticker is April 1, 1937. It is likely (though not certain) that Mr. Mayer's journey was taken on the SS Normandie completed in 1935, which at the time was the largest and fastest ship in the world, winning the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic corssing. This trunk is at least 80 years old and heavily worn, with scratches and various stickers or sticker remnants covering the top of the trunk. The side latches of the trunk are still operational, though the center latch with lock no longer opens. The leather handles are in fantastic condition and are still usable. Can be used as a coffee table, trunk for the foot of the bed, other decor, or as a prop.
