Seller's Notes:Mid-Century Modern Cane Front Credenza Buffet By Jack Cartwright for Founders in Walnut. - - - This is a brilliant example of Mid-Century Modern work. . - - - Sturdy, well thought out design lends well to many design aesthetics. . - - - HISTORY: . - - - This piece was purchased as a wedding present for Washington D.C. artist and art director Donald Dean, later art director for Changing Times (now Kiplinger) magazine and his wife Mary Gordon, presented by J.W. Gordon, owner of Alexander's Department Store in High Point N.C. The purchase would have been around 1959, but may have been as late as early 1961 as the pieces were not presented at the wedding. This piece and the matching cane front hutch (also available at AptDeco) were paired with several Lane pieces in their Wisconsin Avenue Apartment. The pieces were moved to Suburban Virginia in 1965.. - - - The pieces were in constant use by the family until Dean's death in 1989. They were used intermittently afterward and stored in the 2000s. The pieces were restored by a small shop in Hagerstown Maryland just before the Pandemic, and are being offered on sale now.. - - - Condition: Very Good . - - - State: . - - - Restored. Some Imperfections. This exceptional piece shows signs of wear consistent with its age and restoration work. Known details:. - - - - The piece may have had some restoration/repair work c. 1965 after being moved from Washington DC to suburban Virginia. No details are known.. - - - - Some of the wood has different tones. It is generally agreed that this effect has increased over the years as the wood aged, and no effort was made to artificially impose uniformity at restoration. . - - - - back corners have slight foxing/wear. - - -
