Seller's Notes:I bought this custom piece a few years ago - a guy made it who was "looking for the exact right height" for a kitchen/ breakfast table or a desk. It's a beautiful grey marble (this is what he told me - it looks and behaves like marble) top with a steel (?) base - it's got a beautiful patina - almost like iron and pairs excellently with Philip Stark ghost chairs. Note - the table is two pieces - the marble slab is held in place by weight. There's no noticeable blemishes that I can tell - other than the patina of the legs (it's pretty much always been that way). The top can slip off from the base, though in the years I've owned it and moved it around for parties, etc., that's never happened...(I move it by grabbing onto the frame and top). If it's bumped hard, it might nudge out of place, you can nudge it right back. There's a protective plastic netting on the bottom of the stone that cushions (?) it against the frame. Those of you looking closely at photos will notice I have some papers stuck under one leg - that's an anomaly to my apartment....alas, in West Village brownstones, it's a bit too much to hope for 100% even floors. The table is great for 2 people to sit across from...I've hosted Thanksgiving dinner with three people eating from it - with some dishes on a side table. And it's great to host a party on - throw on a table cloth and you're good to go! And DIYers will appreciate - you could probably spray paint the legs in gold metallic or some other fantastic color - I've thought about it, but never did that. If you come to pick up the piece, bring a quilt or a blanket to wrap up the slab for protection...it's durable (and there are no chips), though I've never dropped it or tried to test a 'what-if' case. :)
