Large Vintage Roman Ruins Oil Painting Signed

Product details

Seller's Notes:A dramatic large-scale vintage oil painting on canvas signed Carugati, depicting a romantic architectural landscape of classical Roman ruins, monumental stone columns, and ancient archways beneath an atmospheric sky. The composition features an expansive arrangement of weathered stone architecture, including freestanding columns, a classical colonnade, and a distant monumental arch. Small figures in colorful garments move through the foreground, providing scale and a sense of life among the ancient structures. Signed Carugati at the lower right, the painting shares its subject matter with works by Italian artist Angela Carugati (1881–1977), whose paintings include architectural landscapes and Roman ruins. The painted surface displays expressive brushwork and raised impasto, particularly in the figures, architectural details, and foliage. Rich tones of olive green, terracotta, ochre, and muted blue create a warm, atmospheric composition. The painting is housed in an ornate gold-toned decorative frame with floral and foliate detailing, dark antiqued accents, and a wide linen-textured inner border. Measuring more than four and a half feet wide, this substantial framed painting makes an excellent focal point above a sofa, sideboard, or mantel. Its classical subject and richly layered palette complement traditional, eclectic, and vintage-inspired interiors. Dimensions: 56.5”W × 32.5”H × 3”D, including frame. Condition: age appropriate wear, vintage finish worn, scuffs/scratches, edge wear, discoloration, staining, see photos, see photos.
