Industrial Pedestal Drafting Table
Product details
Seller's Notes:DESCRIPTION: An absolutely stunning large antique 19th-century engineers drafting table. The stunning tulip-style pedestal base is made from a cast iron, or perhaps Bronze, with brass dials to control the tilt and swivel mechanisms. The drawing surface is a solid wood with a rich storied patina, and a features a concave ledge to put drawing tools. The base reads; Morgan Construction Co. Worcester Mass. U.S.A. It is believed to be have been manufactured between to 1891–1901. Drafting tables of this quality typically range from $1200–$4000 depending on where they're purchased, and I've never seen another with this pedestal. MEASUREMENTS: The table-top measures 30" x 40", and the height of the table is a fixed 45" from top to bottom, and of course can be tilted. It may be possible to adjust the height of the table, but I didn't want to damage by trying to do that. Top can be rotated in such a way that the table can be used as an easel, if desired. HISTORY OF THE MORGAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY: In 1881 Morgan founded a steel company for the manufacturings of springs, the Morgan Spring Co, and in 1891 another company for the manufacturing of rolling-mills and wire-drawing machinery, Morgan Construction Co. In the year 1900-01 he was President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. As part of the fourth generation to run Morgan Construction Co., a steel equipment manufacturing business, Paul S. Morgan inherited his family’s legacy of leadership, philanthropy, and civic involvement in Worcester. --- Drafting, Architect, Engineer, Drawing, Desk, Solid wood, VTG, Primitive, Industrial, Pedestal, Cast-iron, Bronze, Made in USA, Mid-century, Keuffel and Esser, Anco, Hamilton, , Rustic, Scandinavian, Wabi-Sabi
