Goodform Aluminum Navy Chairs (6)
Product details
Seller's Notes:This is a set of six original Navy chairs made by Goodform in the 1940s and 1950s. The chairs are part of the Mid-Century Modern Goodform Chairs collection, which features brushed aluminum frames with black vinyl and a distinctive patina. The chairs have triple slat backs above dished black vinyl seats and rounded legs with H-form stretchers. The chairs bear oval maker's labels for Goodform, Ohio. These chairs have a contemporary design and are both lightweight and sturdy. Each chair measures 16.25 inches in width, 21 inches in depth, and 33.5 inches in height. The seat height is 18.5 inches. The General Fireproofing Company of Youngstown, OH, first introduced the chairs in 1931, and they became a classic of American modernism. During World War II, the Navy contracted with the Electric Machine Equipment Company (EMECO) of Hanover, PA, to produce their model 1006 chair for use on ships, military bases, and other installations. The EMECO chair was identical to the Goodform chair, and the design infringement went uncontested for the sake of the war effort. The condition is good, with minor signs of wear and markings across the frames and some signs of wear to the upholstery consistent with age.
