Seller's Notes:This was used in my bedroom, with a Japanese style futon laying on top as I was trying to go for a more traditional style type of bedroom setup. Since this was completely under a futon, the cat and dog never directly touched the tatami mat. Also, they were rarely in my room. Note that since this tatami mat is made out of a rush plant (seems like straw), it does have that straw or plant-like smell to it. Personally, I only really notice the smell when I put my nose less than a foot away from it. I bought this item at a Japanese store located in Edgewater, NJ (store name was Mars New York and their website is http://www.littlejapanusa.com/). The exact item is no longer listed on their site, so I included what looks to be the same item sold on Amazon. Includes the tatami mat and a black carrying case.
