Seller's Notes:Authentic Hans J. Wegner CH24 Wishbone chairs by Carl Hansen & Son, set of 4. Black painted beech frames with handwoven natural paper cord seats. 21.6 inch wide x 20 inch deep x 29.9 inch high, seat height 17.8 inch. Condition: almost as new. Also available with the West Elm Silhouette marble dining table as a set (separate listing).
In 1944, Hans Wegner began a series of chairs drawn from portraits of Danish merchants seated in Ming Chairs. Among them, the Wishbone Chair, completed in 1949 and in continuous production by Carl Hansen & Søn since 1950. Hansen recognized in Wishbone something the market lacked: a lighter counterpoint to the period's prevailing heaviness. Steam-bent solid wood, a woven paper cord seat, and joinery refined over decades of Danish craft practice – the chair is built not for a room, but for a lifetime. Made in Denmark.
