Seller's Notes:Antique Early 19th Century Pierre-Jean-François Turpin Botanical Engraving – “Artichaut Commun” Original antique hand-colored botanical engraving depicting the Common Artichoke (Artichaut Commun), Plate No. 40, from the celebrated French botanical publication Flore Médicale, published in Paris by C. L. F. Panckoucke beginning in 1814. The plate was drawn by noted French botanical illustrator Pierre-Jean-François Turpin (1775–1840) and engraved by Lambert fils, whose credits appear at the lower left and right of the image.The engraving depicts a beautifully detailed artichoke plant and flower together with botanical anatomical details at the bottom. Professionally matted in blue-gray and presented in a silver-tone Nielsen metal frame. Back bears a Frame Gallery, Naples, Florida label.
