Black Locust Modern Side Table — By Tayyib Goods
Product details
Seller's Notes:Timeless Craft | Modern Furniture, Built to Endure If you appreciate quiet craftsmanship, this one’s for you. This side table is built from locally harvested black locust, one of the hardest and most weather-resistant woods in North America. Known for its natural strength and resilience, black locust has long been trusted for exterior structures—now shaped here into a refined, interior form. Dimensions 20.5″ diameter × 20.5″ tall Design A clean, modern silhouette with roots in Japanese, Scandinavian, and mid-century design—where honesty of material and proportion matter most. Each curve and intersection reflects quiet strength and balance. Its scale makes it versatile: a sculptural side table or a calm accent in any living room, reading nook, or bedroom. Construction Every joint is mortised and tenoned—not simply glued, but engineered. Each connection is reinforced from the inside with a thin layer of plant-based EcoPoxy, used sparingly and precisely. The result is a structure where each mortise and tenon is cast like rebar in concrete, locking the grain together and stopping cracks before they spread. This creates an exterior-grade bond that can endure changes in humidity, temperature, and time—built for generations, not seasons. Finish Hand-finished with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, a natural finish certified safe for children’s toys under EN 71 standards. Its proprietary blend of naturally hardening plant-based oils and beeswax provides a surface that’s extremely resistant to water rings, stains from glasses, and daily wear. The surface is sanded to 400 grit and buffed by hand for a silky, organic touch that invites daily use rather than fear of wear. Maintenance The finish requires almost no upkeep. For general care, an occasional wipe with a scratch guard or furniture wax is sufficient to maintain its natural luster. Reapplication of Fiddes Hard Wax Oil is only necessary if the surface is sanded down or repaired—there’s no need for regular recoating. The breathable finish allows the wood to age gracefully, gaining warmth and depth over time. Why It’s Different Most furniture today is designed for short lifespans. This table isn’t. By combining traditional joinery with modern material logic, it achieves both strength and sustainability. The black locust wood is harvested from regenerative forests in Western North Carolina—a tree that naturally heals the soil where it grows. The result is a piece built to endure, not just to impress—furniture that respects the forest it came from and the home it enters.
