Initially known for its high-quality chairs, the company expanded its product line to include aircraft propellers during World War I. The company ceased operations in 1985. B.L. Marble Chair Company was established in 1894 by Barzilla L. Marble in Bedford, Ohio. The company initially produced a variety of chair types, including office chairs, before specializing in commercial chairs for professional settings. The company grew and incorporated in 1901. It also faced a setback in 1901 when a fire destroyed its plant and inventory, but it quickly recovered and expanded its operations. During World War I, the company diversified its production to include aircraft propellers, which were used on Curtiss H-16 seaplanes. The company became particularly known for its high-quality, durable, and stylish commercial chairs, especially for bankers, barristers, and other professionals. B.L. Marble Chair Company closed its doors in 1985. Antique dealers still recognize B.L. Marble Chair Company chairs for their high quality and craftsmanship, with some examples being valued as antiques.
