The upper and lower beds are not attached to each other -- so you can put the bottom bed underneath (sticking out in an L shape) – and the child on the bottom has a little “window” cut-out by his/her head, or you can put the bottom bed at another side of the room entirely. Chestnut color with black accents -- perfect for boys’ or girls’ room. The stairs have drawers, which are awesome for clothes or (as my girls have used them) for storing toys, books and other treasures. The upper bunk has a little landing at the top of the stairs -- perfect so that sleepy kids getting out of bed don't have to go straight from the pillow to stairs (or worse, to a ladder).
