Seller's Notes:Design Designed in 1963 by the renowned Finnish designer and architect Ilmari Lappalainen for Asko, the Pulkka series is a classic of Scandinavian modernism. While often seen in aluminum, this is the more rare bent-laminated birchwood frame version which has an organic warmth and the incredible light-but-sturdy wood craft that vintage Asko is known for. There’s a reason this chair is over 50 years old and still looks good. Lappalainen’s designs were famous for their simplicity and ergonomics and this chair is a prime example. The frame of the chair is cleverly nested into its base and can be easily slid from a lounge to a fully-reclined position. Freshly Reupholstered The most common wear point of Lappalainen’s stretched frame design is the fabric at the front edge of the seat. This piece has been professionally reupholstered in heather grey acrylic indoor/outdoor Sunbrella fabric, giving it more durability and resistance to stains than the classic beige canvas while still retaining the mid-century charm. Condition/Authenticity Features the original Asko manufacturer's stamp (sticker). The birchwood frame is in good vintage condition with a beautiful natural patina. Minor surface scratches and dings are present—consistent with its 50+ year history—but do not detract from its striking silhouette. The original headrest pillow and plastic glides are missing (very common with this vintage), but they don’t impair the recline function or ergonomic comfort of the chair.
