Seller's Notes:Antique handmade slant-top desk The slant top desk is an early form of furniture, considered the predecessor to later innovations such as the secretary. It may have it’s origin is campaign furniture and lap desks as well. This is a very old, handmade specimen with fantastic patination and numerous ink satins, scratches, and various custom battle scars. One of a kind. The slanted top works a deterrent to piling stuff on top of it, and can also stash less-than-attractive household items. The numbers: Height is 33 1/4 inches tall at back, tapering down to 28.5 in front. (slant) Width is 29.5 Depth 26.5 Interior: 10 inches in back, tapering down to 6 inches in front, 26.5 wide, and 23 3/4 deep. Condition: Distressed, aged, great patina, ink, paint, scratches, scuffs, dings, dents, and various markings. The two hinges on top do not match, there is an older, square handmade one and a new longer rounded one. There is some wooden peg joinery, combined with nails. Two detail shots of worn corners. There is a lock, but no key and lock is non-functioning. We used it to store and charge electronics, there is a pre-existing knothole in the interior back (pictured) a small iPhone charge cord can slip through, and it could be enlarged for other cords. The hinged, slant top opens all the way flat back, even farther than the upright side photo shows. Desk interior has been painted, sort of a colonial-era khaki to tan. Close to an inter-office mail envelope color. A versatile and classic piece that would work in a home, rental, store or as a film prop.
