Seller's Notes:An American cherry, tiger and bird's eye maple transitional Sheraton/Empire slant lid secretary/writing desk. The mitered and mortised slanted lid opens to expose a finely fitted amphitheater interior consisting of a central prospector’s door, flanked by two vertical document drawers, serpentine valenced letter slots, along with 4 larger hand dovetailed drawers. The lower case having Empire influenced scrolled columnar supports, three graduated drawers, resting on four ring turned tapering legs. Likely made in the Midwest or the southern states. Circa 1825-1835. The brass “willow" hardware likely replaced in the early 20th Century.
