Antique Korean Bandaji Chest Joseon Dynasty
Product details
Seller's Notes:An antique Bandaji drop-front storage chest, circa late 19th century (Joseon dynasty), characterized by a top-half opening and heavy reinforcement yellow brass designs typical of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Made with beautiful solid Zelkova wood showcasing expressive swirling dark grains in a mirrored pattern. On a stand with curved legs. Wear consistent with age and use. Beautiful original antique condition with mellow patina and age-related wears like marks and small indentations overall. Lock and key present, period correct, but not original. The brass hardware is intentionally not polished to keep the patina; however, it could be polished to make the Bandaji more lavish looking. As a collector of Japanese and Korean antiques, I bought this chest in Kyoto, Japan, from a reputable antique dealer about 30 years ago.
