Antique Hitchcock Style Chair
Product details
Seller's Notes:This antique chair is too delicate to hold a person of average size nowadays, but will provide a lovely accent to any room. The chair appears to be unsigned, and likely dates from the 1840s to early 1850s. It has the typical rush seat, stenciled decoration, and turned legs of the Hitchcock style. The slats that surround the rush seat are somewhat loose, as are the nails affixing the front slat to the seat, and there is a small gap between the front slat and the rush seat. There are paint stains in various places (as illustrated in the photos). This 155+ year old antique is well worn (the photos provide examples). Note that the "depth" stated in the dimensions is for the chair as a whole (ie, how much space it takes up); the depth of the seat itself is only 14.5", and the seat is 16.625" wide at the front but only 14.75" wide at the back.
