Seller's Notes:Guarantee Line A Louis XV style walnut and upholstered settee bearing labels for Macy’s, New York. Description With a molded and carved frame, covered in later damask, on cabriole legs, the underside of the seat bearing labels Macy’s reupholstery labels. Date c. First half 20th century. Notes This elegant settee is possibly of French manufacture and Macy’s are likely to have been subsequently commissioned to replace the fabric. Bear in mind this appraisal is without the benefit of first hand inspection. French furniture was held in high esteem for its quality and decorative styles. It had international appeal and other countries on various continents were copying their furnishings to gain a share of the market.
