Seller's Notes:These two plates were hung on a wall decorating a dining room, they still have the hanging contraption attached, but they can also be used at the table. The are COPELAND late SPODE for Tiffany & Co. Chelsea Bird plates, with marks identifying them as having been made between 1891 and the end of the 19th century. They are in good condition for their age - barely visible crackling throughout on the front of 1 of the plates, somewhat more visible crackling on the backs of both. The plates were hand-painted, with some imperfections in color of the blue part, especially on one. The center part of the plates is different (the birds and fauna) the blue circle, the floral decorations at the sides, and the geometric and gold edges are the same. The edges of the plates are not evenly round but, rather, shaped. One can find Spode plates and sets at much lower prices, but they will be much later designs. I understand the 19th century ones are quite valuable, and already were when they were acquired by my mother a few decades ago. The estimated price I list is what they were acquired for back then, and it is unlikely that there are more of them decades later ) They measure approximately 10.5 inches in diameter - difficult to be more precise as the edges are not a perfect circle.
