Antique Art Deco Oak Armoire
Product details
Seller's Notes:Enchanting antique Art Deco oak armoire crafted in the 1920's or 1930's. The stepped top has a beveled glass mirror inset in the door which is flanked by two arched panels. Each flanking panel is topped with an intricate applied wooden fretwork. What is really special about this armoire are the twin inlaid stylized medallions which are made with specimen woods and are of fine quality. The oak portrays its distinctive golden medullary rays within the grain. The interior has hooks and a hanger bar and the base has a drawer on turned feet. It was either made in America or Britain. The inlaid detail and arched fret to the cresting reflects the new style of the period known as Art Deco. This handsome armoire would originally have formed part of a matching suite of bedroom furniture. These were every fashionable in their time (the 20's/30's). With the beautiful detail, there is some minor wear. The cover plate for the key hole is broken (as seen in picture) but the door closes firmly and can be locked with the skeleton key. The wooden fretwork has some wear and a small piece of the fretwork is missing on the top left side (as seen in picture). The inlays are in great shape and as stunning as they look in the pictures, though the right inlay has an small and almost imperceptible scratch on it (as seen in picture). Overall in quite good condition.
