19th Century American Empire Four-Drawer Chest
Product details
Seller's Notes:A four-drawer chest in the American country Empire tradition, 19th century. Four uniform drawers beneath a flat overhanging top, mahogany drawer fronts with two wide-spaced turned wooden knobs and keyhole escutcheons per drawer. Paneled solid wood sides in a dark finish. Turned bun feet at the front, plain square rear legs. Pine secondary wood on the back. No maker identified. The directness of the country Empire form — honest construction, generous proportions, mahogany drawer fronts doing the decorative work without ornamental elaboration — gives this chest a character that formal period furniture sometimes lacks. A practical and appealing piece suited to a bedroom, hallway, or any interior that responds to American country furniture traditions.
