1940s Vintage Folk Art Children's Painted Rocking Horse Stool
Product details
Seller's Notes: This charming, handmade folk art rocking horse--a true vintage item--was probably made in the 1930s or 1940s. I love how the well-loved wear reveals the beautiful sky blue paint beneath the jadeite green, and that the carefully painted horse head resembles a chess piece. The colors reflect the popular styles of the 1930s: Sunbeam released models of its famed Mixmaster in a pale, creamy yellow with jadite green bowls in the 1930s, and Fire-King and McKee developed their green and Seville Yellow custard glass colors in the same era. The piece shows paint loss and you will probably want to clean it--especially in the crevices--more extensively. It is sturdy and usable. The one significant flaw is a short crack in the piece below the neck (see the detail picture for reference) that does not seem to affect the strength of the piece. For use or display, this is a delightful item for a baby's or child's room, a porch, or anywhere its whimsy and charming design is welcome. Measures about 18 3/4 inches tall and 27 inches long.
