This sideboard/server with graduated two-tier open hutch was designed by Herbert von Thaden for Thaden-Jordan Furniture Co. of Roanoke, Virginia, in the 1940s. Von Thaden was an aircraft engineer, inventor, and pilot who applied aviation-grade molded and laminated plywood techniques to furniture — resulting in a design that straddles late Art Deco and early Mid-Century Modernism, years ahead of its time in construction method. Constructed of laminated birch plywood with the maker’s mark present, confirming authenticity. The lower cabinet offers three-door storage with the original wooden pull handles; the open hutch shelving above is ideal for display. Shows honest, age-appropriate wear (see photos for full condition) — nothing structural, just decades of real use.
