1920s Art Deco Customized Distressed Black King Headboard
Product details
Seller's Notes:Late Art Nouveau/early 1920s King Headboard Hand Painted and Distressed from natural burl veneer wood (the classic vintage look) to a somewhat moody, "Gypsy"/Carnivale/ Old West Black Milk Paint with Matte Black hardware. (All custom) This set was my baby. I was inspired by a set I saw for sale for $$$ @ ABC Carpet and home, Also Deco, and painted a matte green, and when I found this complete set-I decided to try it myself. I purchased the set from an Italian artist who brought the furniture with him to NYC via container when he moved to the states 15 years ago. I liked that it was European Deco, and I could see the slightest bit of variation from the Late Art Nouveau/ early Deco pieces here in the states. In my opinion- It definitely has a much cooler "mood" now as a furniture piece- (in my opinion) than the regular run of the mill brown wood! It has a worn in, distressed look that sets off many decorating ideas, and is kind of moody and sexy. I find that the chalk/milk paint and subtle nuances of the painting and distressing, gives the piece a strong "restoration hardware" feeling (in terms of distress and vintage/stoic decorator vibes they explore, or as aforementioned the ABC vintage piece that was also stripped down and painted matte and distressed) Also-The chalk paint I used, was totally non-toxic and zero VOC totally safe for kids etc. etc The piece is part of a large bedroom set that includes an Armoire, this long dresser, A king headboard, and a vanity w/ a newly recovered chocolate silk velvet bench. I am only selling the items, (and a few other things) because my husband and I are moving to the mountains of New Mexico, and a moving truck, in the winter, in mountains-is a little nerve wracking. I purchased this items, prior to doing the painting and refinishing/patina work for much more than I am selling them-(and I spent hours and hours doing the distressing) but I'd like them to go to a good home, and my move is rapidly approaching. (Where did 2015 go?! sheesh! so much to do before the Holidays) As a seller here on AptDeco, I have 100% positive feedback with my sales, and I have had several happy customers, who have bought things as I prepare for my cross country move. I worked for many years in the fashion and film industries in design and production-so I have an eye for antiques, and custom finishes.
