For our sec­ond Apt­Sto­ries home tours fea­ture, we took a short trip upstate to vis­it Michael and his kids in Pawl­ing, NY! They moved upstate from New York City once the pan­dem­ic hit, and have loved the change from a small­er New York City home to their spa­cious new one in the sub­urbs. Since their move was a sud­den one, Michael had three weeks to find fur­ni­ture options that weren’t from tra­di­tion­al retail­ers with long ship­ping wait times. They were able to find a mix of beau­ti­ful new, used and vin­tage pieces from Apt­De­co, local sec­ond­hand stores, and oth­er online marketplaces.

Our favorite pieces to look out for: the West Elm din­ing table from Apt­De­co, the unique art through­out the house found on Apt­De­co, and a gold paint­ed dinosaur in the entrance win­dow from the house.

Michael’s entry­way fea­tures a piece of spir­i­tu­al art and a set of antique cans both found on Apt­De­co. We love the unique blend of styles, what Michael calls a mix of “mod­ern farm­house and vintage.”

Our favorite view of the house is the spa­cious kitchen and din­ing area with a stone fire­place back­drop. This din­ing table was the first piece the fam­i­ly had after mov­ing here from the city. 

This cozy alcove is where the kids watch tv and play down­stairs. The brown leather Restora­tion Hard­ware couch in this room is a resilient lit­tle piece that can weath­er play­dates, pets, and col­or­ing mishaps. 

Although cut for time in the video, the kids rooms were a high­light of the tour! Both rooms were fur­nished with most­ly sec­ond­hand pieces from a mix­ture of online mar­ket­places and sec­ond­hand shops.

The kids rooms had sim­i­lar but dis­tinct themes, with decor that let their per­son­al­i­ties shine through.

The cozy liv­ing room fea­tures a dou­ble-sided fire­place shared with the din­ing room. The dou­ble doors on the right open up to a cov­ered deck and an expan­sive back yard.
