Seller's Notes: This is an elegant little antique I bought some years ago, a Victorian-era wood-carved American piece (1840 - 1910). It is really well-made since it is a true antique (see picture of inside underneath of chair to see craftsmanship). I am parting with it because I refurnished my home and have shifted to a modern decor. Some of my antiques still work but this ornate tapestry-seat piece just doesn't fit with the (new) vibe. It IS a real antique -- which I stress because many of the items on this site are listed as antiques though they are not antiques. I was told when I acquired it from an antiques dealer in Frederick MD that it is late 19th C era American, 1880's - 90's. It was in pristine condition then and I paid about 500 bucks for it. Now, it's not in pristine condition (and I don't do that kind of work) so I'm selling it for a price reflective of the fact that it needs refinishing. A few words about the condition: The tapestry seat cover is not damaged -- no snags, no tears, no discoloring or loose threads. The wood work on this chair -- which is gorgeous ornate Victorian style -- is undamaged, no broken pieces, no chipped off parts, etc. The chair just needs to be re-stained (or not) -- you will see on the back, on the legs, on the front, places where the varnish has faded or is scratched (not scratches in to the wood, just evidence that it needs refinishing -- see picture of the front piece, see pic of leg, see pic of the back where varnish is worn/faded). It's certainly usable as is and it's a comfortable chair too, but if I was buying it I'd have it re-stained -- hence as I say the vastly below market price. A note about the width: I put 18 inches -- that is the width at the front of the chair, the widest part where all the lovely word work is on the legs. At the back of the chair the width is 14 inches. Lastly the chair is small and light enough that you could probably pick it up if you're local. Any questions, let me know!
