Antique Hitchcock-Style Chair
Product details
Seller's Notes:This beautiful antique is for accent purposes, not for sitting (it is too delicate to hold a person of average size nowadays). The chair appears to be unsigned, making it likely that it dates from the later period of Lambert Hitchcock's production (1840s to early 1850s). It has the typical rush seat, stenciled decoration, and turned legs of the Hitchcock style. One of the side slats (on the side of the rush seat) is only loosely attached. A slight imperfection in the rush seat is shown in one of the photos. This 155+ year old antique is well worn (the photos provide examples). Note that the "depth" stated in the dimensions (17.5") is for the chair as a whole (ie, how much space it takes up); the depth of the seat itself is only 14.5", and the seat is 17.5" wide at the front but only 14" wide at the back. Please bear in mind that you are buying a gorgeous piece of history, not a functional seat!
