New year, new you! Feeling like your home decor is in need of some new energy? We’ve got all the latest decor trends and decorating tips to help you hit the refresh button on your home’s style in 2017. Out with the old, in with the new: here’s what many predict will be big in decor in 2017.

An update can be as simple as getting rid of things that are outdated, there are certainly some trends to leave behind in 2016. Some small changes can make your space feel like new! You don’t need to do a complete overhaul of all your furniture to make your living space feel renewed. Here are some changes to consider to make this your best decorating year yet.

Change up your lighting

One way to get started is by changing out those Edison bulbs. Your lighting deserves to shine bright like a diamond, and hanging a retro light bulb from the ceiling just won’t cut it.

What’s the new trend in lighting? If you still love hanging lights, try adding a pendant lamp to your dining area for a glamorous look. Midcentury modern fixtures are also in, which are a great choice if you want to invest in something more timeless than trendy. If tableside fixtures are more your style, look for pieces in gold; it will nicely complement any color pattern and bring warmth to your room!

Bring on the color

Speaking of color, bright, jewel tones are the name of the game in 2017. Leave bright white behind in 2016; instead, bright green is the Pantone color of the year, symbolizing new beginnings and reflecting the color of spring. “A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality,” says Pantone. Greenery is a pretty light shade, but dark green is also in, along with other jewel tones.

Consider a print

If you don’t love green, not to worry. Adding any color will do, and even prints are in this year. If you like a print, but don’t want to commit to it, one way to bring more detail to your space is throw pillows. Celebrity interior designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard says throw pillows are one of the simplest ways to stay up with ever-changing trends: “Always buy a plain sofa and change it up with new pillows.” Mixing and matching your patterns is also a huge trend for 2017. Go big (and) go home!

Experiment with new materials

Looking to give your home a bigger facelift? Avoid using copper and brass, and instead look for marble, cork or cerused wood (wood that shows its grain). Pro-tip: if you don’t want to commit to one of these materials, a faux-marble wallpaper will give you the same look! Any kind of organic or woodsy looking materials are on-trend, to go with the organic green color of the year. Terracotta tile also gives your space a warm and cozy feeling, despite being tile.

Focus on comfort

In the bedroom, the most stylish way to get your beauty sleep is in a bed with an upholstered headboard. Let’s leave the color indigo in 2016, and instead hop on the boho-chic trend taking bedrooms around the country by storm. And, we can’t think of a more perfect room to experiment with hygge – a Danish word that means “getting cozy” and is making an early push to become 2017’s word of the year.
